Unit 3 Final Reflective Essay Reflecting back on how this particular English class helped me develop into a more efficient writer, I immediately think of how I learned to be more articulate with words. The importance of being descriptive is another lesson I integrated in my repertoire as a writer.
Being descriptive helps the reader know subtle details and allows the reader to form a mental photograph of what the writer is describing.
Emphasizing on simple details ultimately makes the reader feel comfortable and more inclined in their interest level by establishing being a thoughtful, detail oriented writer. These were some attributes I acquired by taking this course.
After taking this course I now feel very comfortable as a writer and I would like to thank my teacher Louise Bown for helping achieve these skills. My personal goals before the semester started were just to regain confidence in my writing, become a better writer, and exhibit clear concise but descriptive techniques in my writing.
Another important goal was also to understand how to appropriately write a paper. I believe I met these goals by regularly having a peer review of my papers in class.
Negative or positive feedback helps the writer whether the writer admits to it or not. I swallowed my pride and accepted the fact negative comments are comments with good intentions. I quickly learned that the more comments I received the more people were helping my paper out and teaching me a valuable lesson of how to write more effectively.
Often papers become flooded with unnecessary details and length. Peer review also helped me here because I would ask my peer on what was unnecessary and how I could replace this useless content with meaningful content.
In class I soon realized the problem was students were not going into enough detail in their papers so I would always help by brainstorming with them on a few ideas on how to extend length and still keeping the context direct and to the point. I met my goals by trial and error.

Final Reflection Paper or English class the slightest bit (unless it involved an article on ESPN’s website). But this semester, my first in college, I really did not mind English class at all; in fact I enjoyed it at times. Using one’s self expression to write concretely and descriptively makes for an interesting essay and that much.
Peer review played a major role into my development into a better writer. I inherited the organizational skills of using steps in writing. I found it easier to just start writing the body of the subject and once I had a good idea of what direction my paper was going in I would then include an introduction.
Focusing on the body of the text allowed me to know what to include in the introduction so the reader would be prepared and ready to enjoy my writing.
I always found it easy to write the conclusion last and after a few drafts and several peer review I was always confident in my end result.
My overall reflective thought on taking this English class is that I am very appreciative of how I learned simple skills and techniques to better my writing. The most important skill I developed is being able to be descriptive on details that make the reader feel like they can visualize what I am describing and yet concise enough to not over exaggerate and lose interest from the reader.
Another important lesson I learned is that revising numerous times can ultimately be in your best interest as a writer. Thanks to an effective teacher and my ambition to better myself I am walking out of this class feeling like a skilled, confident and efficient writer. The English Final Portfolio Purpose: To demonstrate your best writing and create pieces you would be proud to include in a college application portfolio.
